In 1829, Bayonne changed its tradition of running the bulls in the streets (the “encierro”) to a confined area, thus creating modern bullfighting in France.
Bayonne’s bullring (1983) is the biggest in the South West of France, with more than 10.000 seats. It has now become part of the town’s heritage.

Every year, from July to September, Bayonne’s bullring appeals to thousands of “aficionados” during the Ferias and the Temporada.
