Plaine d'Ansot

The cathedral city of Bayonne is firmly committed to preserving its green spaces. LaPlained'Ansot, a 100 hectare area of wetland situated on the edge of the city, provides visitors with avast natural showcase enabling them to discover thelocal biodiversity set against a stunning backdrop.

The city's Parks and Green Spaces Department also works with asustainable development mindset in its management of the city's180 hectares of lawns, flowerbeds, playing fields, children's play areas, squares andtree-lined areas created by environmentally-minded gardeners.

Jardin botanique

Bayonne's parks and gardens– le jardinBotanique, le jardin René Cassin, and le jardin Léon Bonnat – are mainly located in the city centre and can be accessed easily. The Botanical Garden is a delightful haven of peace in an urban environment; a well-kept secret locally described as the hanging gardens of...Bayonne!

The Jardins de la Poterne – situated in the heart ofthe ramparts built by the great military engineer Vauban –is a great place for children who adore the play areas situated in a sublime shaded setting; What's more, you can sometimes see the famous goats that take care of the parts that are difficult to!

Open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm, except public holidays. The exhibition room is open from 10am to 12.15pm and from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. The garden is closed during the Bayonne 2022 festivities: from 27 to 31 July boyh included.

Lastly, Bayonne is a city of rivers: the Adour and the Nive merge in front of the City Hall providing the old part of the city with truly unique appeal!
The banks of the River Nive are very popular with joggers and cyclists and are tailor-made for family outings on bikes.
